8.  How much does this cost in US dollars/ euros?

We sell all products in UK Stirling (£) and under British law only and therefore we do not determine exchange rates. The exchange rate is determined by PayPal and generally follows tourist rates.   For a guide on current exchange rates, please visit an foreign exchange website such as XE.com

9.  What day and what time should I plan to arrive?

We will be checking guests into their accommodation from 1.00pm on Monday 9th August 2010. We would be grateful if you would kindly arrive with us by no later than 5.30pm.

10. I’d like to book an extra few nights as I’m travelling a long distance.

This is fine, although it is subject to availability.  Please e-mail us , quoting your booking reference number once you have booked your 6 night accommodation and we will arrange this with you.  We can only arrange this once you have purchased your accommodation.

11. If I book my accommodation with you, will you guarantee that I get a place on all the classes I want to take?

No, we do not accept any liability regarding the allocation of places in classes.   They will all be sold on a first come, first served basis only.

12.  I am vegetarian/on a specific diet.  Can you accommodate this?

We can accommodate for most specific diets on our full board package.  You will able to choose a specific option when booking this accommodation.  We regret we cannot cater for guests with nut allergies.

13. Will you be sending me anything in the post/mail?

No.  You will receive a booking confirmation from us after you have purchased your accommodation through our online shop.  It will take us up to 10 days to send this confirmation, depending on how busy we are, although we aim to send it much faster.  You will then be requested to bring a print out of your booking with you to the University.  You will not be able to book into your accommodation without this.

14.  Is there any food available to purchase on campus for people staying off campus?

There is a limited catering service run by the University during the summer holidays, which includes when we will be there.  A full list of what will be available will follow shortly.  We suggest that people who live locally/are staying off campus bring their own sandwiches with them.  There are drinks vending machines in the Atrium at the University.

Classes

14.  When does booking for classes open?

Booking opened on 8.00pm GMT on 1st January 2010.  There was a three month difference between accommodation and classes being sold to help make the event more affordable by guests/students being able to spread the cost.

14a. Are you taking bookings on the telephone?

No, we are not. All bookings must be made through our online shop.

15. How much will classes cost?

For a three hour class, the cost is between £30 and £40.

For a six hour class, the cost is between £60 and £80.

We have calculated classes cost on the basis of £10 - £13.33 per hour.

All individual class prices are on each of the tutors’ pages..  Please see the Tutors page for more information.

16. How long do the classes last, and what time do they start and finish?

The vast majority of classes last three hours, with some 6 hour classes too.

Morning classes will run from 9.30am until 12.30pm and afternoon classes will run 2.00pm until 5.00pm.

16a. What format are the classes taking?

The vast majority of classes are practical hands on sessions, with the exception of two classes by Norah Gaughan and two classes by Ysolda.  Where other tutors are including any type of lecture in their class, this is clearly labelled.

17.  How many students can you fit into each class?

This varies between 4 (machine knitting) and 60 , with most classes accommodating about 20 -25  students.  Each class will also contain a tutor’s assistant.  Details of class numbers are on the tutors’ pages.

18.  How do I book classes?

Again, classes will be sold through our web shop. Please see replies to questions 12 and 13.  You will be sent a separate booking confirmation once you have booked your classes.  Please make sure that you also bring this booking confirmation with you.

19.  I live nearby or I want to stay at alternative accommodation other than on campus (e.g. Local campsite).  Can I still book classes?

Most certainly!

20.  Will there be homework to complete before class?

For some classes there will indeed be some homework which you will need to complete before you attend the class.  It is highly recommended that homework is completed so you can get the most out of your class. You will be e-mailed your homework approximately 4 - 8 weeks before Knit Camp if this has not been published already on the tutors’ pages.

21  What will I need to bring with me to class?

Yarn for some classes is kindly being donated by Jamieson and Smith.  We are very grateful for their continued support and are proud of our association with this company, who not only produce gorgeous yarns at a reasonable price, but also support their local economy by using fleeces from over 750 crofters on their islands.

We are working with other companies to try and provide as much yarn for your classes as possible, and will release details of this as and when it becomes available.

You will need to bring other items, such as knitting needles, crochet hooks, stitch markers and so on to class.  This information will be available on the class information on our website, and will also be included in the booking information in our web shop.

Please do not worry if you forget to bring something with you to Knit Camp, as we will be operating a small shop during the camp and will make sure that there is an adequate supply of all the required products.

22.  Do I have to stay on campus to be eligible to come to class?

No.  We will be selling places in classes on a first come, first served basis.

Other events, excursions taking place during Knit Camp

23. Are there other things going on during Knit Camp?

Yes, we are planning other events for you to enjoy too.  These include a ceilidh, visits to local attractions such as Loch Katrine and the Trossachs National Park, New Lanark Mill, The Famous Grouse Experience at the Glenturret Distillery.

We are also planning on-campus events too such as a barbeque, opening night meal with the tutors, free mini-classes, pampering sessions, yoga.

There are also other sessions available for everyone taking part in the event to attend.

These events are now open for everyone attending Knit Camp.

Details are on the Excursions page, with bookings opening on 1st January too.

You are welcome to come along and spend some time in the communal University areas with students if you are not participating in the classes, but please be aware that you will not be able to enter any organised events without proof of payment and your student pass.

UK Ravelry Weekend 2010

24. Please can you give me some details about UK Ravelry Weekend 2010?

Details of UK Ravelry Weekend 2010 will be released in March 2010. Online booking for tickets will take place thereafter in our webshop.

Most of our tutors will be taking part in the event.  It will be headlined by Ravelry LLC (Jess, Casey, Mary Heather and Sarah). Please see the Ravelry website for more details about Ravelry.

We will not be sending any tickets in the post, but you will need to bring your booking confirmation with you to pick up your entrance ticket.

You do not need to attend Knit Camp to attend UK Ravelry Weekend 2010.

25.  I am interested in booking a stall/booth for the Ravelry  Weekend marketplace.  Please give me details.

Please e-mail us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it to enquire if we have any spaces left.

26. My company is not based in Great Britain.  Can I trade at UK Ravelry Weekend?

We will accept applications from any yarncraft-related company, whether they are based in the UK or abroad.  Non-European Union companies will contact us for visa and trading information.  We are pleased to announce that we will be able to act as an umbrella organisation for non- European Union companies, although there will be a charge for this to cover the costs.

27.  I am based outside of Great Britain.  Will you be able to sell our products for us?

We will consider this.  Please contact us for a quote.

28.  I do not sell yarn.  Can I still book a stall?

We regret that we will not accept applications from companies who do not have a direct link to yarncrafts. Therefore, for example,  spinning wheel manufacturers are welcomed although manufacturers and retailers of quilting supplies are not.

29.  How much will it cost to attend the Ravelry weekend?

A one day pass will cost £8, and a two day pass £10.  Other events, such as the luminary panel will obviously cost more, as will classes.  We will not be selling tickets on the door for the events.
