Kate Gilbert taught herself to knit at age 16 after finding Elizabeth Zimmermann’s books in her local library. She had no idea that yarn shops even existed, so started designing her own patterns right away. She is perhaps best known for her Clapotis, which is still one of the most downloaded patterns on Knitty and the most knitted project on the Ravelry database (with 13360 projects as I type). I bet you’ve knit one, or know someone who has! Kate is the Creative Director of Twist Collective (which she set up with three friends) an online magazine grouping the best of independent design.
