Stranded hat

Stranded colourwork hats

Always wanted to design stranded colourwork? A sampler hat is a liberating way to begin. We will look at various world wide colourwork traditions, their motifs and colourways.  We will design our own sampler hats using simple math and charting our designs on graph paper, and choosing from a dazzling array of yarn colors. We will find how subtle changes in color and differing motif placement can dramatically change the look of our hat. Samplers are an especially effective learning tool in a group – we’ll learn as much from our classmates decisions as we will from our own. A great way to experiment with colour and pattern, your hat will provide you with the bones for many future designs.
