Introduction to Lace KnittingNew to lace knitting, or just want to learn more? In this in-depth class, learn how to make knitted lace. This course will cover everything from how to make a yarn over in a variety of situations, to which decrease to use to get which effect, to how placement of decreases shapes the finished fabric. This class will also cover how to read charts. Create fingerless lace mitts to put the techniques learned into practice. The pattern Evolution Mitts by Miriam Felton is supplied with your class fees.
When: Tuesday, 9.30 - 5.00 Level: Intermediate plus Class Skills: Confident knitter who can knit in the round on a small circumference (e.g. Socks, mittens), knows to perform a decrease and yarn over. Cost: £80 Class Length: 6 hours Homework: None Bring with you: 50-100 grams of smooth sock yarn, in a solid or semi-solid light color (dark colors make it hard to see your stitches). 2.5mm needle or size needed to obtain gauge according to pattern; DPNs, 2 circulars, or magic loop according to you preference. This class will teach you how to fix missing yarn overs, correct decreases leaning the wrong way, and how to undo lace from ripping whole rows at a time, unknitting, and dropping down and reworking incorrect repeats. Emphasis will be placed on how to read your lace knitting and how to recognize which method to use. When: Wednesday, 9.30 - 12.30 Level: Intermediate plus Class Skills: Confident knitter who is relatively new to lace knitting, can complete yarn overs and decreases Cost: £40 Class Length: 3 hours Bring with you: Homework swatches as described, crochet hook of appropriate size, extra needle of appropriate size, safety pins or stitch holders, sewing pins (about 10 should do), pencil, sticky notes.
Homework: Swatch 1: Using scrap yarn (between DK and Aran weight) and an appropriate Swatch 2: Using scrap yarn between DK & Aran weight and an appropriate needle size, cast on 37 sts. Work 2 rows in garter stitch, then work 2-3"of the following, ending with Row 8. Minimum number of students for class to run: 10 Maximum number of students: 22
Design Your Own Lace ShawlCreate a unique and one-of-a-kind lace piece of which to be proud! Bring graph paper, stitch dictionaries, and a few ideas. We'll discuss increase structures and construction for various shapes and how to edit stitch motifs to fit within the increase structure. When: Thursday, 9.30 - 5.00 Level: Intermediate plus Class Skills: Knitters should be comfortable with most sock concepts Cost: £80 Class Length: 6 hours Bring with you: Graph paper (about 10 squares/inch), pencils, sticky notes, yarn and needles for swatching motifs, stitch dictionaries, scratch paper. Triangular Shawl ConstructionsLearn a variety of Triangular Shawl Constructions, how the shaping is accomplished, as well as the pros and cons of each construction. We'll also discuss ways to wear this versatile garment.
