Rockpool Candy

English fibre activist, rockpool candy, attempts to draw the public in with the beauty of her creations and then sock ‘em in the shins with serious social and environmental messages. Her sculptures, interventions and installations have shown worldwide. Her urban textile projects are spreading virally in a city near you.

lasses with Inga will be taking place all over the campus!

A message from Inga:

The titles  of the classes below probably speak for themselves, but my aim is to spread the fibre activism message. To empower textile makers’ voices and make them realise that they don’t just have to knit socks.

I’m going to get people up and off their seats. To use crochet and basic weaving techniques to create unusual sculptural pieces outside the classroom. The more stuff we can do outside the better, both in an urban (using the university architecture) and rural (using trees etc) sense.

I want people to translate their own images onto the textiles they create and then release them.

I want to challenge people’s ideas about yarns. Making filaments from plastic bags, T-shirts, duvet covers, old rope etc.
